Here's a question we recently got from one of our faithful readers:
What are the best foods for curing colon cancer?
First of all let me state that I can make no claim to "cure" colon cancer. If I did the FDA would probably come to my house, throw me down and cuff me. That would be the last you would ever see of me.
So let's explore some of things that I do to avoid cancer.
- Eat more fiber. Americans are not big on fiber. We like to refine everything to death. This is one of the reasons we are leading the world in Colon Cancer. Lots of people I talk to don't even like to take fiber supplements because they taste bad or don't like the texture. The other issue is the gas and bloating that some products cause. And still others are afraid of the urgent need to go to the bathroom. After researching many fiber products, I found one that I and most of my clients really enjoy. And it overcomes all of these problems.
- Eat plenty of colorful fruits and vegetables. The colors and pigments in the plants actually contain beneficial compounds. Science has figured out what some of these are, but there are many which are still a mystery. Therefore it is better to eat the real fruit, than to take a pill with some isolated compounds. For those who are just not going to eat their veggies, a supplement which contains juices, extracts or powders from actual fruits and veggies is best.
- Get enough water. This is just basic. I have discussed the need for water many times in other articles. Just do a search on our site, if you are still unclear on this one.
- Avoid refined sugar. And while you are at it stay away from all types of artificial sweeteners. These are actually worse than sugar in my opinion. There are a few natural sweeteners that are acceptable, stevia is my personal favorite.
- Eat modest amounts of meat. I do not recommend total vegetarianism or veganism. Some meat in needed for good health. Certainly look for antibiotic and hormone free varieties.
