How do I test my urine pH to see if I'm acidic? Print E-mail

This is a question we get quite often at AsktheHerbalist.net.

Testing your urine pH is simple to do.

There are a few important points to remember:

  1. Your pH fluctuates throughout the day. What you ate, if your stressed and any number of other factors can cause your pH to vary.
  2. Test 2-3 times a day for 5 days in a row. Average the numbers for a more accurate picture of what your body is doing.
  3. I like to keep my pH between 7.0 and 7.5. This gives me optimal energy, helps maintain my physique and aids my thinking clarity.
  4. First morning urine should not be counted toward your average. AM urine should always be more acid than the average.
  5. Your kidneys work hard to eliminate acid as you sleep. Sufficient hydration (drinking water) is needed to optimize this process.

Otherwise the process is very simple.

Get the pH test strip in the the urine stream just briefly.

Compare to the color on the chart to get your reading.

Use pen and paper to keep track of your numbers. A little notebook and pencil for the bathroom.

You can even carry test strips with you. The box is very small.
